Can I get malaria here?

I am not so sure where I live if I can get a disease from getting bit by insects. I know about lymes and tick bites but do we have malaria causing mosquitoes in the US? I imagine you would find them in very hot underdeveloped countries. I know in Africa if you go there and they have a lot of them around you best make sure you have head and bed nettings, and repellents along with window screens with no holes in them what so ever. You best be sure to stay inside, because even if you have had a shot to protect you, it has been know to still happen so be very careful
