Research Your Small Business Market

One of the main reasons why many businesses fail is because they have not followed this basic step.  Research, research, research is the key.  You and your family or friends may think that your product or service is a great idea, but this does not mean that there will be enough interested people to make it a viable business.  You need to find out whether people are already spending money in this niche.  Is there a need?  What is the competition in your location?  If there are lots of similar companies offering similar products, what can you provide that is new and unique?  Find your unique selling proposition.  Small business coaching can help.
