My dad bought a blood pressure monitor from Walmart a couple of years ago to use at home. His doctor said he had high blood pressure and to keep an eye on it, so he figured the best way was to measure daily at home. Now it’s not the day to day variations that are very important. High blood pressure is a risk factor for other co-morbidities such as stroke and heart attack. But I definitely agree having it there for him to see everyday makes him more aware of trying to monitor his blood pressure. He makes a conscious effort to exercise and eat better because he likes to gauge himself at home. So if getting a home blood pressure monitor will make you try harder in terms of lifestyle changes to lower your blood pressure, then I think it is a good investment.
