When it comes to the master of an output to a project you need to make sure that you have the correct readings in the overall process. I recently have started using a digital attenuator so that I could limit or increase the amount of strength in the fiber when I need it. It is kind of like the difference between being able to dial something in precisely and just working the knob hoping that you will eventually hit the frequency that you need. I do not have the patience to work that type of testing system for the project ahead.
